Hey beer fans, it’s a Monday night, and it’s time for a distinct cold one! I’m really digging these collaboration beers that are hitting the store shelved as of late, and here we’ve got one from two distinctively different brewers, both in Oregon - Deschutes out of Bend, and Hair of the Dog out of Portland. I love it when different craft brewers who have signature beers get together and craft up something new.
This particular brew has been classified as an American Strong Ale, but I’m going to throw caution to the wind and reclassify this as a Sour Ale…
Let’s pour!
Cloudy, cola brown pour with zero head yet a modicum of lacing. The nose is very tart - cherry, raisin, wine, oak, fig, malt. The taste follows the nose identically, with the addition of a whiff of a good port. Mouthfeel is heavy with the appropriate carbonation. Very sippable, if you like the style.
My wife says, “If this beer were a movie, it would be equal parts Gary Oldman, Gary Sinise, Clint Eastwood, and Betty White. It is versatile, mysterious, simply bad ass, and kinda nutty.”
I agree!
